It is with a sad heart that I send our condolences to Rosa and family for the loss of Ken. He was such a big part of my growing up years, and meant a great deal to the Juell Davis family. My husband, Jas, and I enjoyed many visits with Ken when Daddy went to the farm and stopped by to talk to Ken. I know that Daddy will be happy to see Ken again in Heaven.

Paula Davis Renka and I are saddened to hear of the passing of Ken Autry Davis. I remember with fondness some trips with my father in law, Juell Davis, brother of Ken's daddy Boyd. Juell went to his farm to fish and talk to his small herd of cows, but often enough just came around to visit with Ken. Once we passed a long hot afternoon shortly after Ken's retirement. Ken obviously loved his students and his football players, and said as much in strong and clear terms. He was a good man of firm opinions and clear views, a country boy who lived where he wanted to be and did what he most wanted to do in this life.

And we will miss him.

Rosa and Family,
Please accept my condolences on the loss of Ken.

He was an outstanding man, molder of men and athlete. I have many good memories of when we played football in 1954, 55, 56, and of our fishing and hunting trips. He has received a lot of recognition for his achievement, but many of them will live long after in the men he coached, and encouraged during his lifetime.

May God comfort you and the family, knowing Ken is now in a better place, where there is no more pain or sickness.

The Davis family has always held a special place in my family's heart. Sending our prayers to the Davis family during their time of loss. Thank you for sharing Coach Davis with each of us for so many years. He was a mentor and a leader for those at WPHS and the community of Wills Point. He will be missed!

Dear Rosa Ruth, Damon and the entire Davis Family:
My heart is truly saddened at your monumental loss. Coach Davis was the kind of man and mentor any young man or woman would be privileged and blessed to just know, but to also be in his unassuming presence brings to my mind what will always be his unspoken passion for young people, his friends, family and his true and unwavering love for God.
Ken Autry will be missed in the flesh, but his character, integrity, true grit, compassion and love for life and people will live far beyond any time constraints in the individual lives of those, like me, who have been so fortunate and immeasurably blessed just to have been able to sense his greatness on and off the football field and in life in general!
Thanks to each of you for allowing us to share him with you. Your kindness to us and your selflessness is truly appreciated and I pray that God will continue to richly bless each and every one of you!
I am send much love, respect, and lots of prayers your way for God's great Love to comfort each of you and that He will continue to give you compassion, understanding, strength, and His abiding PEACE as you face these difficult times!
In Christ, and for His Glory,
Silas

To everyone that did not have the benefit of knowing Coach Davis, but feel compelled to follow these comments and “the story” – Coach Davis loved this community, in particular its young people. You did not have to be on the football team. In the 7th grade, he taught me to take notes in physical science. He taught me how to ask the right questions, and to think ahead of a potential problem before it became a real problem. Whether in school, the Navy or the corporate world, what I learned on the football team provided so many benefits. Football was what I looked forward to the most in high school. The teamwork, uncertainty on the field, and learning to depend on the strength of others were all life lessons; however, I’m not sure we recognized it at the time—but Coach Davis did. Coach Ken Autry will be missed, but not the legacy.

Davis Family, Please accept my sincerest sympathy at the loss of Coach Davis. He was the most revered, respected, strict educator I ever had. I was truly scared of him, but after I became an educator I respected him more than ever. May God be with you all during this time.

Under the wide and starry sky,Dig the grave and let me lie.Glad did I live and gladly die,And I laid me down with a will. This be the verse you grave for me:Here he lies where he longed to be;Home is the sailor, home from sea,And the hunter home from the hill.

Men that are large in physical statue often leave large footprints that after the blowing wind tend to fade away. Men of smaller statue and larger character leave big impressions the last a lifetime. Coach Davis was a man of character. Even after 40 years I often find myself using a Coach Davis metaphor to illustrate a Bible Meets Life moment in my men Sunday School class.

Growing up in a place called Wills Point from September to November the seven day week was reduced to two, Sunday and Friday. You went to church on Sunday and you went to the game on Friday to see if your prayers were answered. Coach Davis conducted service in a short sleeve shirt with a clipboard tucked in his waist. Yes it was 42 degrees. He didn't need a coat he was warmed by his passion for the game, his players and his home town.

While conditions will stop me from being with you on Tuesday nothing can stop my thought and prayers from being in a place called Wills Point on a TRUE HALL OF FAME football legion called Coach Davis.

Coach Davis was as nice a man as he was a good coach, and he ran a tough detention hall. My prayers and hugs to Mrs. Rosa, Damon, Amber, Betsy and the rest of his family. It was an honor to participate in his care.

I knew then and even more in later years that we were privileged that Coach Davis came back out of retirement to coach us our senior year. His coming back made that year a special season. It was a privilege to play for him.
