Funeral services for Ken Autry Davis, 77, of Wills Point, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Russell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wills Point with Pastor David Cartwright, Rev. Lonnie Cunigan and Mr. Herschel LyBrand officiating. Interment will follow at White Rose Cemetery under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.

He passed away Friday night, December 4, 2015, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Ken Autry was born January 3, 1938, in Wills Point, the son of William Boyd Davis and Lola Mae Shaw Davis. He was a lifelong resident of Wills Point. Ken graduated from Wills Point High School, where he was an outstanding athlete and was named All-State Running Back in 1955 before attending Stephen F. Austin University. He played for S.F.A. in the late 1950's and early 1960's. He started as halfback for the Lumberjacks for three years, lettered four years in football, and two years in track. He received the SFA Todd Award for Outstanding Athlete in 1961. Ken was also named to the All Texas College Football Team in 1960. On December 22, 1959, he married Rosa Ruth Curtis in Wills Point. Ken was employed as a coach by the Wills Point I.S.D. for thirty years, serving as head football coach for twenty-five of those years, retiring in 1991. In 1965, he led the team to the Class A State Football Championship with a perfect 15-0 season. Ken compiled a coaching record of 187 wins and 83 losses during his career, all at Wills Point I.S.D. In 2005, he was honored to have the current football stadium named Ken Autry Davis Field. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, farming, and raising cattle. Ken was a lifetime member of Texas High School Coaches Association and a member of Russell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wills Point.

Preceded in death by his parents, William Boyd and Lola Mae Davis; son, Chris Davis; brother, Jackie Boyd Davis and his sister, Janice Weatherford.

Ken is survived by his wife, Rosa Davis, of Wills Point; son, Damon Davis & wife, Jana, of Wills Point; brother, Billy Don Davis & wife, Mary Jane, of Tatum; sister, Betsy Lil Cavin & husband, Ronnie, of Wills Point; close relatives, Sue Davis, Ragan, and Amber, Stephanie Curtis, Molly, Connie, and Ben.

Pallbearers: Roy Deen, John Shepard, Steve Steadham, Tim Sockwell, David Laney, C.W. Wilson, Wayne Langford and Richard Davis.

Honorary pallbearers will be the 1965 State Championship members.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
