William Benjamin Murray

William Benjamin Murray, 64, of Lapeer formerly of South Carolina, died after a recent diagnosis, Thursday July 13, 2017. He was born August 1, 1952 in Lapeer to parents Kenneth and Sheila (Staniland) Murray. Bill graduated from Lapeer High School Class of 1970.

Bill was a gifted musician; playing guitar, drums, piano and other instruments. Bill was an exceptional guitar player and nothing gave him a better feeling than playing his guitar. Bill knew how to Rock and Roll and play with heart and soul. Bill played with music legends to include Steve Cropper (Booker T. & the M.G.'s and the Blues Brothers Band) and Don Felder of the Eagles. He loved to write and compose original music in his spare time. Bill might be summed up as an entertainer; from his list of musical accomplishments, to appearing in music videos, being involved in a PGA tour event every year on Hilton Head Island as the tournament Scottish mascot to playing Santa Claus in various settings. Bill enjoyed playing golf, fishing, boating, travel and being social. He penned a memoir (which will be published) as well as being in a movie called "Little Red Wagon" playing a role as Santa Claus. Bill gave his boys some great memories growing up: some memories described best as "adventurous, quirky get-aways" to include camping, road trips, skiing and other adventures in between. Bill had a unique perspective on life and had a great sense of humor. His view was different from others and it was always insightful to hear him speak. Bills pride and joy were his 3 granddaughters. They brought more joy to his life than can be said. Bill, and his fun character, will be missed by many.

Mr. Murray is survived by sons: Josh (Beth) Murray of Greensboro, NC, Jason Murray of North Branch, granddaughters: Carley, Madeline and Emilia, brother: Bob (Maureen) Murray of Lapeer, friend & mother of the boys: Penny (Brian) Starking and many good friends. He was preceded in death by brother: Dave Murray as well as his mom & dad.

Bill's family has entrusted Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer with cremation. A memorial service will be scheduled for later this year.
