Wanda Mae (Wagner) Hartz, 96, of Middletown CT passed away peacefully in the early hours of May 26, 2017.

Wanda was born in Starrucca, PA on June 3, 1920 to Ernest and Iva Wagner and was the youngest of five children. The family moved to Windsor, NY when Wanda was a toddler and she attended public school in Windsor, graduating from Windsor High School in 1938. She attended Keystone Junior College in PA and was co-captain of the women's basketball team. She graduated from college in 1942 as a medical secretary and was employed by Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, NY from 1942-1946.

She married Edward "Keith" Hartz on June 29, 1946 and moved to Deposit, New York to build their dream home and start a family while Keith operated Ed Hartz and Sons Hardware Store. They had four children and over 40 years of a happy marriage until Keith died on July 30, 1989.

Most of her life was dedicated to raising her children and being a devoted and loving wife. She was an enthusiastic community volunteer and faithful church member selflessly volunteering for the Deposit Public Library and Deposit Presbyterian Church. She also organized and arranged travel bus tours for the community to both New York City and the Pennsylvania Dutch area.

In 2000, Wanda relocated to Middletown, CT to be closer to her youngest daughter, Pam. She continued her active life by volunteering at Middlesex Hospital and as a member of First Church of Christ in Middletown as a member of the Bell Choir and the Bee and Missionary Society.

She was an avid UConn Women's Basketball fan and followed their games religiously.

Besides her husband, Keith, and her parents, she was also predeceased by her older brother Lynn and sisters Alice, Laura and Lorena.

Wanda is survived by her four children, Nancy Hartz Van Slyke (husband Bob) of Pensacola Florida, Alan Albert Hartz (wife Cindy) of Thousand Oaks, CA, Pam Hartz Miller (husband Jim) of Middletown CT and Scott Wagner Hartz (wife Vicki) of Port Crane, NY. She leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 2PM on June 27th at First Church of Christ, 190 Court Street, in Middletown, CT and at 2PM on June 28th at First Presbyterian Church, 129 Second Street, Deposit, NY.
