Margaret "Margy" Caroline (Hawley) Wheat, 96, passed away April 18, 2016 with her family by her side. She was born in Fargo, ND, on September 28, 1919, a daughter of Courtright and Frances (Blatchford) Hawley. Margy graduated from Madison College, (now James Madison University) and completed her Dietician Internship at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, where she received her degree in Dietary Science. Margy served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U S Army Medical Corps as a hospital dietician in the ETO during WWII. On July 22, 1945 1st Lieutenant Margaret Caroline Hawley wed Captain Parker Wheat, MD, in the Lutheran church in Kassel, Germany-the only church left standing when the allied forces occupied Germany. Following her marriage and their Honorable Discharge from military service, they moved to Manchester, NH, where Margy became an active member of the Elliot Hospital Associates for 54 years serving on the board and on various committees. She was a member of the Visiting Nurse Associates board of directors for 15 years and served as chairperson of the board for 2 years. Margy was a member of Brookside Congregational Church for 69 years serving on the board of trustees and as chairperson for two years. She was a member of the Manchester Garden Club and served on their board. Margy was also a member of the Manchester Historical Association, a friend of Valley Cemetery, and a member of The Educational Continuum at Southern University of New Hampshire.

Margy will be deeply missed by her three loving children, Parker Wheat Jr and his wife Fawn, Frances Wheat, and Barbara Wheat; three grandchildren, Adin, Ryan and Alyssa; three great-grandchildren, Clayton, Owen and Autumn; and three nieces, Ruth, Fran and Peggy. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Services: A memorial service will begin at 2 pm on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Brookside Congregational Church, 2013 Elm Street, Manchester, NH, 03104. Interment in Valley Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Brookside Congregational Church.
