Charlotte Elaine Lloyd Simpkins of Ardmore, PA departed this life on Saturday, March 21, 2015. She was 85 years old. She was the wife of the late Chester Robert Simpkins. She was the daughter of the late Herbert Lloyd Sr. and Emily Irlan Lloyd Bunting.
She was born in Bryn Mawr, PA and raised in Ardmore, PA. Charlotte was baptized at an early age under the pastorate of the late Rev. Banks. She attended school in the Lower Merion School District and went on to attend Upholstery School, making slipcovers and draperies.
She retired from Bell Atlantic now known as "Verizon" after many years of work. She has served as a short term missionary on many occasions in Haiti, West Indies. Along with that, until her illness, she served faithfully on the Zion Missionary Board, Prayerband (she was an eager participant in all night prayer and spearheaded the Angel Tree Ministry), Deaconess Ministry, and taught faithfully in Sunday school as the Adult Teacher for over a decade.
Charlotte holds membership in the NAACP as well as the International Society of Poets. She is also a member in good standing at the PALM. During her tenure at the PALM, she flourished in the Creative Writing Class; it was there she learned to write short stories as well as poems. Her overall goal and vision while alone in a peaceful setting was always hoping and believing in God, children, and my country to strive to make a better life style for all people through writing. Many of her poems have been published in several Anthologies locally as well as abroad.
Charlotte is the recipient of numerous awards. She successfully completed a 3 year program from Philadelphia College of the Bible. She was acknowledged by the Four Chaplains along with numerous appreciation awards and commendations.
Charlotte united in marriage on May 20, 1950 to Chester (late) and they were together for 62 years until death separated them. Out of that union they had two daughters: Rev. Janet Simpkins of Norristown, PA and Rev. Linda Dickerson and son-in law Deacon Ted Dickerson Jr. of Mountville, PA. In addition she leaves three grandchildren, (Erin, Theodore III, and Parker) one great –grandson (Khafra); sisters Violet Hearn (George) of Wayne, PA; Sarah Isabel Muse and Bertha Johnson of Ardmore, PA, a goddaughter, Lucille Maiden and a host of nieces and nephews. Charlotte also cherished her brothers and sisters in-law.
She was predeceased by siblings, Herbert Lloyd Jr., Eleanor Maiden, Robert Lloyd Sr., Richard Lloyd Sr., William Lloyd, and Ken Lloyd.
