AMATO, Jack, 84, of Wheeling, W.Va., died Thursday, August 28, 2014 in Wheeling Hospital.



He was born January 1, 1930, in Swoyersville, Pa., a son to the late Joseph and Frances Amato, both immigrants of Sicily. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wheeling, the Elm Grove Civics, and the Cave Club. He was retired from Altmeyer Funeral Home and a linen supply company. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy who proudly served on the U.S.S. Midway.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jim (Angie) Amato.



He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances (Gitto) Amato, three daughters, Francine Amato of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Anna Marie (Tom) Miller of Wheeling, and Jackie (Andrew) Lorms of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, Christopher (Sarah) Bayardi, Andrew (Danielle) Bayardi, Gina (Dustin) Bowman, Maxwell Swinney, Katie Swinney, and Jack Lorms; one great-grandson, John Isaac Bayardi; and two nephews, Joseph (Debbie) Amato, and James (Kelly) Amato.



Friends will be received on Friday, August 29, 2014 from 4-8 pm at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Elm Grove Chapel, 154 Kruger Street, Wheeling, where a vigil service will be held at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Triadelphia, W.Va., with Msgr. Kevin Quirk as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling.



Jack loved his family and gardening more than anything



Jacks favorite sayings were, "I have three beautiful daughters and three all look like their dad", "whatever it takes", and "attitude is everything".
