My prayers are with Nick's family! He was a great teacher, friend and colleague. We did concerts with our combined high school choirs, and shared grad classes at Hartt. Many fond memories of his outstanding musicianship.

This is truly "the day the music died" Nick will be missed by so many people who he has touched with his toughness & tenderness over the years. He had such an incredible ear for perfection in music and life. I stayed in touch with him over the past 25 years on a monthly basis. He was a very funny man & so very talented. Condolences to all.

I was so very sorry to read that Nick had passed away... I was a classmate at WWHS ('56) with Nick and enjoyed talking with him at our Reunion last fall. My condolences to his family.

Nick was a great friend, a wonderful human being and an outstanding musician. We will certainly miss him. Our friendship began in the 3rd grade at Stillman School in Middletown. I consider myself fortunate to have had Nick as a lifelong friend. May he rest in peace.

I sang under Nick's baton at South Windsor High School. His passion for music and his demand for nothing but the students' best was inspiring, and he helped to shape the musician I am today. My condolences to his family. I will miss him, but never forget him.

Dearest Athena and Family,
We are so sorry to hear about Nick's passing. As a first cousin, I have memories of Nick from childhood and up. I too remember the perfectionism, especially as a gardener when Nick would visit us in Fitchburg for family reunions. He would walk around our yard and tell us what we could be doing better! May we all have fond memories of Nick so that his life will be made eternal. With love, Sophia & John

Went to the Hartt school with Nicky. I was fortunate to get to know Nick as a classmate and fellow musician. Played along side Nick as a tenor saxophone player in Al Lepak's jazz band, shared some classes together etc. Nick impressed me as being a "picky/fussy" individual with almost everything he did...perfectionist so to speak. His (saxophone) playing always reminded me of Dexter Gordon...Even Nick's clarinet playing was "a cut above the rest"...This is how I remember Nicky...Rest in peace my friend...rest in peace Nick!

Got to know Nick as "Nick" the last few years with the SW Community Band and no longer "Mr Lesbines" as he was known when I was in high school. Great player. Will be missed. RIP. For anyone who wants to see his concert 6/9/2017 here it is at: youtu.be/fQa1hakUFAg
