I grew up on Kaufman Dr in Westwood a few doors down and across the street from Douglas. Or as we called him in younger years, "Dougie". He was such a hilarious person, I have so many fond memories of him and us riding around in his red Pinto or his Dad's orange VW, or sitting at his kitchen table for hours on end. I remember his pet Rooster and his dog Taffy. I remember him drinking Miller Ponys at Spanky's Bar on Broadway. I remember him yelling "Don't put the coffee on we're not staying!" when we pulled into someones driveway to turn around. Douglas had a hilarious sense of humor and a huge heart. I will remember him always and forever.

Doug, I cherish the times we hung out fishing and rode our bikes. I pray you rest in peace. Your buddy forever Jimmy Peck

Last week someone said, “the sky is a little brighter and the world a little dimmer now”, and I couldn’t agree more, as last Sunday brought the bluest skies we’d seen in a week.
If you are here today then you have most likely been touched by the love, generosity and the laughter that was Doug. Whether you are a life-long friend or new acquaintance, a sister or brother, a daughter or son, a granddaughter or grandson, or the love of his life, then you know the joy of being in his presence.

Doug put his heart and soul into his family and his life, and was the most selfless person I’ve known. He would shop for hours if it meant us girls were happy. Every inch of that garden shed was carefully thought out and each piece hand-picked to perfection….that was Doug.
If you put one glass in the sink, by the time you turned around it was washed, dried and put away. And how he got those fitted sheets so perfectly folded every time still baffles me….but that was Doug.
Whether it was a quick phone call on your birthday, a 2-hour drive to fix a faucet, or a snowy rescue for a group of friends, you could count on him…..and that was Doug.

Doug never rested; while we spent our Saturday mornings in pajamas, he was dressed and onto his daily project 20 minutes after waking up. When we unload 3 cars – full of beach toys, chairs and coolers, then trudge through the hot sane, only to realize we forgot something, he was the first to offer to go back and get it…….that was Doug.

He loved the beach.
He loved to travel.
He loved DisneyWorld and Christmas.
He loved to fix things, build things and figure out clever ways to make something work better.
He loved Sunday morning flea markets.
He loved French onion soup, and hated butter.
He loved to pick out the most perfect birthday or anniversary card and present that he knew you would love.
He loved his grandchildren, his children and especially his wife.

It is these memories we all hold in our hearts that keep Doug’s spirit alive. For me, it’s something as small as him teaching me how to back up the car with the trailer hitched to it; or the excitement he had for when he would be able to let Mady ride on his tractor.

It was all the fun times we had together as a family, and for Doug there was nothing more important. He never called me a stop-daughter, but always his daughter.

For someone to whole-heartedly accept and care for everyone he met shows how truly genuine and loving he was……but that was doug.

Not just a friend, but a support system.
Not just a son-in-law, but a son.
Not just a Father or Step-Father, but a Dad.
Not just a Grandfather, but the #1 Grampy.
Not just a Husband, but a Best Friend.

That was Doug

I am the person from DIRECTV who first met Doug when I interviewed him back in 2005 timeframe. I knew immediately that we had found the right guy, and I am proud to have been the link that brought Doug into our world.

He will be sorely missed by his colleagues and friends. My deepest sympathies to the Young family.

To all of Dougs family and friends, I offer you the deepest sympathy in this time of loss. I have had the privelage over the last four years to work with Doug here at DIRECTV and his absense has left a void . Doug was a great man and his presence will most certainly be missed. My sincere condolences to all who knew him.

Doug was excellent to work with and a good friend. His dry sense of humor closely matched mine and I remember the many months I spent working in New Hampshire with fondness - mainly because of Doug.
I'll miss you my friend.
