I was not a happy kid in high school, except for my time in band. Mr. C believed in me so much, I couldn't help but believe in myself. I learned I could play different instruments, I learned I could write an arrangement, and I learned I could design a field show - all because of his encouragement. He kept me so busy, I didn't have time to get in trouble. His love of music was infectious, and I'm so grateful for the time I got to spend with him. I hope the love of so many will be of some comfort to his family.

Christiansen family, So sorry to hear of Mr. Christiansen's passing. I was in 7th or 8th grade at Peoria Heights Grade School when he came to be our band director following Mrs. Ohlman. He was young, enthusiastic, and went out of his way to help us. We had to memorize the preamble to the Constitution and something else and we were grumbling that we couldn't do it. He had several of us come to your home on Constantine and practice out loud into a reel to reel tape recorder. It was so cold that night that he drove me home as I recall. I remember you had 1 or 2 babies then and you let us disturb your home. I remember this vividly and appreciate the kindness of Mr. C and yourself.

Many of us could say we learned many valuable lessons from Mr. C while participating in band at RHS. His baton taught us to focus; his smile taught us to appreciate; his ear taught us to listen more carefully; his patience and good timing created harmony. Many also learned from him that challenges make one stronger but be gracious with the outcome - appreciate your competition. His unwavering leadership, guidance and patience were gifts he shared. My condolences to the Christiansen family. May your hearts be full with love and memories.

Christiansen family - my condolences. Mr C was the very best and one of my favorites in high school. Having him for 4 years made me a better person and definitely had a very positive, strong impact on my life. I regret not seeing him when I came back to Peoria. I always remember him saying "Do you want to be a leader, or a follower?!" He will be a leader in heaven.

So many wonderful memories of music and drums and such solid support of me as a member of his band at Richwoods. His caring and compassionate style of teaching will always be an inspiration to me. Always. I will miss him. I place his entire family in the comforting and musical Hands of God.
