Memorial for Rita M. Keane

Departed on Dec. 5, 2020 and resided in Warwick, Rhode Island.

Rita M. (Gaudet) Keane, age 88, of Warwick, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 5, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was married for 64 years to the love of her life, the late Edward F. Keane.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Ernest J. and Angeline (Gaudet) Gaudet, she lived in Warwick since 1957. She was a 1950 graduate of St. Patrick High School in Providence.

She enjoyed happy hours with her friends on the deck of her beach house, and the visits to her family in Tignish, Prince Edward Island. She never missed her daughters’ athletic events, and each year coordinated the all-girls trips to Atlantic City. The mother of twelve, she had a lifelong devotion to the Blessed Mother.

She is survived by her children, Edward F. Keane, Jr. (Coleen), Brenda L. Hastings (Michael), Tamara J. Keane (Tim), Stephen E. Keane (Lori), Ernest J. Keane (Tara), Rita M. Conway (Kevin), Jennifer L. Evans (Bob), JoAnne Hannon (John), Jean M. Keane (Peter), Christine M. McConnell (Corry), and Janice Kakela-Wolosko (Mark); a brother, Ernest Gaudet (Lorraine); her younger sister, Doris Boucher; eighteen grandchildren, Melissa, Cori-Lyn, Ernest, Tamara, Donna, Robert, Kevin, Jeriann, Karly, Samantha, Jack, Tim Jr., Michael, Devon, Andrew, Kyle, Morgan, and Madison; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Donna Marie Keane; the grandmother of the late Michael L. Hastings, Jr. and Anthony Nadeau; and the sister of the late Exilda McCullough, Edna Frei, Albert Gaudet, Margaret Campbell, Theresa Pitassi, and Patricia Monahan.

The family would like to thank Dr. Debra Roberts and nurse August for their kindness and compassion during Rita’s final hours.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, her funeral and burial will be private. (A video of her Mass of Christian Burial will be available on the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home website later this week.) In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Memphis, TN. To leave condolence messages, please visit www.barrettandcotter.com
