Richard F. “Boompa” Mitchell, age 78, of Warwick, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, October 25, 2020. He was the husband of MaryAnn (Butrico) Mitchell.
Born in Warwick, a son of the late Francis W. and Mary J. (DeFeo) Mitchell, he was a life-long Warwick resident. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Mr. Mitchell was an auto mechanic and business owner before retiring 18 years ago. He was an ordained minister.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters and four sons, Barbara J. Mitchell, Patrick A. DeLayo, Tina M. Beauchaine, Daniel C. DeLayo, Jennifer S. Hill, and Kimberly L. Mitchell, all of Warwick, Marie L. Ducas of Pawtucket, Jason C. Mitchell of Burrillville, and John Traylor of Providence; a sister, Muriel M. Dascoli of Georgia; a brother, Stanley W. Mitchell of Foster; 31 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Ronda L. Mitchell, Joseph S. DeLayo, and Mary-Jo Mitchell; and the brother of the late Shirley C. Smith, Sandra L. Violette, and Earl P. Mitchell.
Boompa was a foster parent for 34 years. In addition to raising many, he also adopted five children.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, November 3, at 11 a.m., in St. Peter Church, 350 Fair Street, Warwick. (Facial coverings and social distancing will be required.) Due to COVID -19 restrictions, the visiting hours and burial will be private.
