Robert Leonard Aberg, born on March 7,1931, to William and Kathleen Aberg, went home to the Lord on January 9, 2019. His wife of 57 years, Anne Heltzel Aberg, survives him, as do two of his sons, Robert Olson Aberg, and wife, Lori, living in Grafton, MA, and Timothy John Aberg, and wife, Theresa, here in Fredericksburg. A third son, James Andrew Aberg, died in 1967.

Bob was a 1949 graduate of Calvin Coolidge High School in Washington, DC. He served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. One tour of duty was on Attu in the Aleutian Islands, running a Loran station with 13 other “Coasties” for 14 months. Following his service in the Coast Guard, Bob attended Purdue University, graduating in 1959 with a degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering. He worked for Westinghouse and Aerojet-General before being hired in 1962, by the Naval Research Lab in Washington DC. He retired in 1989.

Bob and Anne moved to Sedona, AZ in 1990. Bob was active with the Kiwanis project of creating and constructing Red Rock Pathways. The idea behind this project was to get tourists out of their cars and into the stunning natural beauty of Sedona. He and Anne also participated in biking, a hiking club, and VASA, a Swedish organization designed to acquaint people with their Scandinavian backgrounds.

In 2005 Bob and Anne moved to Fredericksburg to be near family, especially the grandchildren.

Services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 825 College Avenue, Fredericksburg, VA 22401, on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 2 pm.
