Mary Isobel Sutherland (Maris) McAdie was born on June 18th, 1935 to John and Annie Goodwin in Westruther, Scotland. She passed peacefully in her sleep on June 24th, 2018 at her home in West Richland, Washington.

Maris spent her early years in Scotland before immigrating to Vancouver, Canada in 1955. In her words, “I was going to go out and see the world for a couple of years and then go home”. She met her husband Ian during the Christmas season in Vancouver in 1959. Ian and Maris were married in September, 1960 and made their home in Burnaby, BC. They were married for 52 years. Their son David was born in October, 1961 and Stephen was born in August, 1963.

In 1968 the family moved south to the U.S. to Glendora, CA where they spent 7 years. Mom spent those years working as secretary. In 1974 Ian and Maris made the decision to purchase a camera store, Sunland Camera in Richland, Washington, and the rest - as they say - is history. Mom ran the store while Ian, David and Stephen spent countless hours in the darkroom or helping out with customers. Following Ian’s death in 2012, Maris continued to operate Sunland Camera. The store was her life - her connection to her customers (many she called her friends). Following a fall in 2014, she closed the doors to Sunland Camera after operating it for nearly 40 years.

Maris was preceded in death by her husband Ian, a sister Anne, and her parents John and Annie Goodwin. She is survived by her son David (Janet), Kennewick, WA, and son Stephen (Wendy), Richland, WA, and sister Alice Goodwin (Ian Oliver), Scotland. Maris is also survived by her 4 grandchildren, Andie, Mike, Shelby, and Stevie, 1 great-grandson Kayden, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Westside Church, 615 Wright Ave, Richland, WA 99352.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Maris’s name to the West Richland Food Bank or to the pet rescue/adoption organization of your choice.
