ALEXANDRIA, IN- James R. “Jim” Nelson, 71, entered into eternal rest on Saturday evening, February 10, 2018 from his residence following an extended illness.

Jim was born on December 18, 1946 in Carmi, Illinois to Lawrence and Anna (Jones) Nelson and has lived in Alexandria since 1964. He was a 1964 graduate of Carmi High School. Jim served in the Nation Guard. Jim worked as a licensed realtor at OC Clark /Wilson Realtors in Alexandria for 5 years. He retired from General Motors in Anderson in 2002 after 37 years of employment. After retirement, he also drove a school bus for Alexandria Community Schools Jim was a very dedicated and active member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church, where he probably has held almost every position in the church. Dedicated in service to his Lord, his church and was well known for reaching out to people with his high quality and delicious homemade, paddle churned ice cream. Family was very important to Jim and he expressed his love for them by gifting them with dozens and dozens of handmade wood items from Jim’s wood shop.

Several nieces and nephews

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother David Nelson

A Service of Home Going will take place at the Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 South Park Avenue on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 1 pm. Dr. Michael Deutsch will officiate. Interment will follow in Gravel Lawn Cemetery at Fortville. Friends may call at the Alexandria First Baptist Church from 10 am to 1 pm prior to the services on Thursday. .

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria First Baptist Church, any missions outreach program of the donor’s choice or the Gideon Memorial Bible program.
