ALEXANDRIA, IN-Georgeanna Ruth (Coyle) Zettel died peacefully at her home surrounded by her four daughters on Saturday, January 20, 2018.

Georgeanna was born on August 19, 1924 to George and Bernice (Greenlee) Coyle in Alexandria. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1942. She was married to James Leo Zettel on November 21st, 1946 until Jim’s death in 1993. Together they had four daughters: Jan (Tom) Urban, Rosanna (John) Scholl, Mary (Joe) Kirk and Rita Harris (Greg Bristow).

She has lived in Alexandria her whole life and over the years worked in the Alexandria Clerks office and the Monroe Township Trustees office. She loved dancing with her husband and spending time with family and friends especially her daughters. Over the years, she had many interests including, sewing, crocheting, knitting, gardening, canning, making jelly and homemade noodles and fried chicken. She was a great role model for her daughters. She loved animals and always cared for at least one pet, during most of her life. She missed family and friends who had gone before her, especially her sister in law, Betty Zettel. She had very strong will and in her 80’s recovered from both a broken hip and broken shoulder. She maintained her own household until the last few months. She was soft hearted and gave generously to charities as she could. She was a longtime member of the Eagles Auxiliary #1771, and the Lady Elks. She faithfully attended St Mary’s Catholic Church until she became homebound. She belonged to Kappa Delta Phi sorority.

She is survived by her daughters and sister-in-law, Joan Sloan Ritenour, her grandchildren; Jenny (Brad) DiRuzza, Jeffrey (Lisa) Urban, Andrew (Kelly) Scholl, Benjamin (Jennifer) Scholl and Lucas (Brandy) Gillespie: great grandchildren Noah and Olivia DiRuzza, Layla and Chase Urban, Holly and Hudson Scholl, Leo, Spencer and Adeline Gillespie, her nephew: Mark (Janette) Sloan and her niece, Jody (Jim) Banker.

Georgeanna was preceded in death by her lifelong loving husband, James Leo Zettel, her parents, George and Bernice(Greenlee) Coyle, her parents-in-law, Leo and Jeanette(Moreland) Zettel, her son-in-law, Lonnie Joe Kirk, her grandparents, James F. and Carrie (Lake) Greenlee and Edward F. and Katherine (Mahner) Coyle, aunts and uncles, Virgil Greenlee, William F Greenlee, Ruby Carver, Iva Bennett, Virginia Luzadder, Opal Lee, Pete Greenlee, Edward F. Coyle, John J. Coyle, Charles F. Coyle and Anna Leafgreen, and her niece, Kathleen Sloan Cormenier, as well as many other family members and lifelong friends.

She will also be greatly missed by her longtime companion and caregiver, Penny Thomas, and the family is deeply indebted to her for the wonderful care she gave to our mother.

Per Georgeanna’s request there will be no public services. A family graveside service will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital or the Disabled Veterans Association in her name.
