Carmel-June Ann (Hocker) Beasley, 77, passed away Saturday Jan. 20, 2018 in IU Health-Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis following a brief illness.

She was born in Alexandria, IN, August 18, 1940, the daughter of Vlon and Dorlis (Garner) Hocker. June was the valedictorian of the Alexandria High School Class of 1958. She married Jack Beasley of Alexandria one week after graduation. They both attended Purdue University and had daughter, Brenda, while students there. They went on to have sons Scott and Jonathan.Moving frequently, they lived in Dallas,Texas; Detroit, Michigan; Holmdel, New Jersey; Atlanta, Noblesville, and Carmel, Indiana.

June was an executive secretary at Downtown L.S. Ayres, an office manager for several small companies for many years, and an auditor at the International Office of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity.

June loved to cook and hosted many, many family dinners over the years at every holiday. Holidays at beautiful Rush Hill Farm in Atlanta were especially memorable. She loved her family more than anything. She and Jack were fortunate to have so many friends and they treasured each friendship.

Jack and June loved traveling and have been all over the world. Their goal was to go to every state and every continent. They accomplished their goal, including the Panama Canal.

In their younger years, Jack, June, and their children ran races all over the Midwest before running became so popular. June was especially proud to have run the Paavo Nurmi Marathon in Iron County, Wisconsin, Aug. 10, 1974. She was the 4th Beasley to cross the finish line that day.

June was also interested in genealogy. She was a former two-term Regent of the Kik-tha-we-nund DAR Chapter in Anderson. She was a State Regent of Daughters of the American Colonists, and a member of the Muncie Chapter of Colonial Dames. She was secretary of the Orestes Kids Reunion, a member of the 1958 Class Lunch Bunch, Gourmet Dinner Club, and All Souls Unitarian Church in Indianapolis.


Survivors include husband, Jack Beasley, Carmel; daughter Brenda (Tom) Nickoloff, Santa Fe, NM; son Scott (Karen) Beasley, West Lafayette; son Jonathan (Kelley) Beasley, Ft. Wayne; and brother, Tony (Ellen) Hocker , Kokomo. Grandchildren are Justin Beasley, Toledo, OH; Brent (Erin) Bennett, Austin, TX; Belinda (Dave) Bennett, San Francisco, CA; Katie Beasley, Ann Arbor, MI; Rachel Beasley, Terre Haute; Hamilton Nickoloff, Denver, CO; Megan (Jason) Wendholt, Grand Rapids, MI; and Zane (Becca) Cooperider, Indianapolis. Other survivors are a niece, Angela (Troy) Tomson and her children Drew and Cole, Cincinnati, OH, and nephew Phillip (Lauren) Hocker and his children Max and Reid, Brentwood, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents.


Services honoring June’s life and legacy will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria. Interment will follow in Jones Cemetery near Yorktown. Friends may call at the Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018.
