Lowell L. Wallen, age 96, formerly of Peoria, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Bridgeway Senior Living in Bensenville, IL.

Lowell was born on May 22, 1921 in Rockford, Illinois to Lawrence E. and Florence E. (Kling) Wallen. He married Charlotte M. Broman on September 2, 1949 in Rockford.

Surviving are his wife, Charlotte; one son, Peter L. (Cindy) Wallen of Wheaton, IL; and two grandchildren, David Wallen and Rebekah Wallen. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timothy J. Wallen; and his sister, Loretta J. Wallen.

Lowell graduated with a PhD in Bio-organic Chemistry from Iowa State University in 1954. He graduated from Wheaton College in 1944 and the University of Arkansas in 1948. He was a member of the American Chemical Society (Emeritus), Alpha Chi Sigma and Phi Lambda Upsilon (Chemistry.) Lowell was a member of the senior research staff at the USDA Northern Research Laboratory in Peoria, IL for 30 years and was a Chemistry Lab Instructor for Bradley University for 8 years. Lowell was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he was the choral director for 25 years and taught adult Sunday school classes.

Services will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 2pm at Bethany Baptist Church in Edwards with visitation held one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Lyall Sutton will be officiating. Visitation will also be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 3pm to 5pm at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church or Films for Christ.
