ABELARDO DE CASTRO NAPEÑAS
"Hello, Hello, Hello!" For more than 90 years Abelardo Napeñas, with his ever present beaming smile, warmed the heart of every person he met.
Age 92, Abelardo passed away peacefully near his home in Aberdeen, Md.
A dedicated family man, Abe was born August 12, 1924 in Bangar, La Union to Macario and Maria Napeñas. He married his friend and love of his life Juanita (Coloma) Napeñas in December, 1948.
Abelardo worked all his life as an engineer, starting first in the Philippines and The Marianas Islands. Upon emigrating from the Philippines to the USA, he started at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and then the Army Corps of Engineers. Abe retired as a civilian with the United States Army Department of Public Works in 2002.
A lover of gardening, finding bargains at flea markets, and real fried chicken, Abe passed many of these traits to his children and grandchildren. Abe is survived by his three children and their spouses; Teodora Lourdes "Nancy" and Reynaldo Viray, Reynaldo and Sue Napeñas, and Manuel and Dorothy Napeñas; grandchildren, Reynaldo Viray Jr, Benjamin Viray, Jonathan Viray, Brandi Napeñas, Daniel Napeñas, Mariah Napeñas, Dominik Napeñas, Derek Napeñas; great grandchildren, Rosario, Marcella, Lorenzo; plus many in laws, nieces and nephews.
All of these He loved and touched deeply. In a world deficient of truly virtuous people, Abelardo exhibited vast amounts of Compassion, Patience, Kindness and Honesty. His qualities will be remembered and, although it may be impossible to emulate Abelardo's amazing life and ethos, we can try every day to be as loving as he was. Please join us celebrating his life Tuesday, July 18th, at 10 am at St. Joan of Arc Church, 222 Law St. Aberdeen Md.
