Cynthia Shawn Peterson-Gibbs was born to Lee Roy Jr. and Gwendolyn (Thorne) Peterson on November 10, 1969 in Austin, Texas.

Cynthia joined Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Bastrop, Texas where she accepted Christ as her savior at an early age and was baptized by the late Grover Neal Sr.
Cynthia attended Sidney Lanier High School and graduated in 1988. Cynthia had a love for sports. She was an active player for the Greater East Austin Kickball Youth Association and a member of Austin's Red Barons Kickball Team, the first Black Youth Kickball team at Given's Park. She played kickball well into adulthood and joined the Women's League. She often played the Family Super Bowl sports game and was usually the jackpot winner.

Educating her children was important to Cynthia and she organized a Parents Teacher Association (PTA) sub-committee at Norman Elementary School to ensure that children were the number one priority.

She treasured her family and her children always came first. You could always count on her being at her children's sports events cheering them on and giving motherly advice.

She loved going to Bastrop to visit her grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. She made sure that everyone always knew what was going in the family and was coined the "commentator." Holidays were her favorite time of year to spend with the family she loved, most of all her mother.
Cynthia previously worked for IBM and the City of Austin Convention Center. Her last employment was with Applied Material where she was loved and respect by all that encountered her.

Cynthia married Larry Hawkins and to the union Deant'e Treshawn Hawkins was born. She later married Willie Gibbs and Leana Marshay Gibbs was born. She spent her last years with her fiancé Roderick Gooden.

She moves on to celebrate in heaven with her father Lee Roy Peterson Jr., maternal grandparents, Mizell and Lela (Howard) Thorne; paternal grandparents, Lee Roy Sr. and Bernice Peterson.

She leaves to carry out her legacy, children: Deant'e Treshawn Hawkins and Leana Marshay Gibbs; fiancé Roderick Gooden; mother Gwendolyn Thorne-Peterson; brothers Derek W. Peterson (Debra), Darryl E. Peterson (Michelle) and Stephen B. Peterson (Theresa);Great aunts: Dorothy Peterson, Barbara McDonald and Hazel Harris (Earl); great uncle: Rev. Lawrence J. Thorne; uncles Kenneth Peterson, Don Thorne, Sr. (Adell) and Walter Richard Moore Sr. (Inez), aunts: Lossie Peterson, Ruth Felix, Gwendolyn McGrew (Michael), Brenda Wright (Michael), Loretta Price (Michael). A host of very special cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the Goodens, Petersons and Thornes.
