Bakari Jaward Henderson was born to Philbert and Jill Henderson on April 13, 1995 in Austin, Texas. A loving and caring child, he professed his love for Christ at an early age and re-dedicated his life to Christ when the entire Henderson family chose to be baptized together on June 1, 2014 at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Education and preparation were key elements of Bakari's life, starting with his time at Anderson High School and continuing on to his graduation from Hyde Park Baptist High School in 2013 with a 4.0 GPA. Having played basketball, tennis and soccer, he earned academic and athletic honors including National Achievement Semi-Finalist, National Merit Commendation, the President's Volunteer Service Gold Award, Christian Athlete of the Year Semi-Finalist, 1st Team All-District Basketball, and DECA 1st Place District Winner. A member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. for eight years, he was presented at the biennial beautillion as one of Austin's 2014 outstanding young African Americans.

Bakari's hard work in high school enabled him to receive a full academic scholarship to the University of Arizona (UA). Bakari flourished at UA. He was a friend to everyone he met and was quickly selected to become a member of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) Fraternity during his freshman year. The following summer, he was selected to become an intern with the Texas Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Texas State Senate. In addition to his ability to easily make friends, Bakari also distinguished himself as an adventurous and entrepreneurial scholar with international aspirations. After his sophomore year in college, he was selected as one of only 30 students invited to participate in a pre-MBA Boot Camp in Shanghai, China at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). While in this program, he collaborated with pre-MBA students, professors and Chinese executives regarding business strategies and career goals. Following the program, he extended his trip to explore the sights in Beijing, China.

The following summer, Bakari traveled throughout Europe in an effort to make future business connections. During his travels, he visited Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, England, Monaco and Greece. Always an avid sports fan, special highlights of his travels included attending Wimbledon and the UEFA Champions League Soccer Final. He also traveled to Columbia where he met video producers in anticipation of the launch of his emerging luxury clothing line. In the midst of all of his travels, Bakari was always working on his ultimate plan—to build an international multi-faceted business enterprise. Bakari graduated from the University of Arizona on May 12, 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Finance and Entrepreneurship from the Eller College of Management. Bakari died July 7, 2017 on a trip abroad, following his passion and pursuing his dreams.

While we mourn Bakari's transition from this world, many relatives await his arrival in Heaven including his brother Darrion Branch, paternal grandparents Mary Joyce and James Henderson, Sr., maternal grandfather Thomas Dawkins, Sr., paternal great-grandparents Alberta and Bozy O'Neal, and Florence Roy; maternal great grandparents Alberta and Odell Reams, great-grandfathers Quincy Barker and Thomas Dawkins, uncle James Henderson, Jr. and godparents Johnny and Annie Amie.
