John Ferdinand Welsh, Sr. passed away on July 5, 2017 at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro at the age of 92 after a lengthy and valiant struggle with multiple medical complications.
John was born on November 23, 1924 in Roselle, New Jersey, son of the late Pearl Myrtle (nee) Watkins and Harte Winston Welsh. After graduation from Abraham Clark High School, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Merchant Marines serving in World War II.
Upon his discharge, John married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Williams whom he affectionately called "Betty" or "Dove."
John was a Sergeant with the Port of New York Authority, retiring after 20 years of service. His last assignment was at the World Trade Center. Not one to be idle, he began a second career as a Manager at ITT in New York and Nutley, New Jersey, retiring in 1992.
John enjoyed traveling with his wife whether it was through his work or during his leisure time. They were always together. He also enjoyed entertaining at home and John and Betty were gracious hosts. His pride and joy were his granddaughters and great-grandchildren. His loving, caring and giving was a beautiful sight to behold.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Welsh; brother, George Winston; sister, Iris Evelyn Daniels; son, John Ferdinand, Jr.; and grandson, John Ferdinand Welsh III.He is survived by two daughters: Elizabeth Befumo and Sharon Buzzard; two granddaughters: Melissa Bethony (Joseph) and Kathleen Dufresne (Kevin); four great-grandchildren: Natalie, Mason, John and Grace; nephew, Kim Daniels; niece, Brenda Lewis; his cousins and extended family: Martha, Tracy, Dean, Richard, Nacole and Jordin; he also leaves the most wonderful care givers who worked tirelessly providing him with abundant love and tender care that John and his family appreciated more than words can express; thanks to Rose Fleming, Keisha Thompson, Samantha Maina and Kerline Mercedal.
John will be so missed by all who came in contact with him.
