David Leroy Edwards was born April 2, 1933 in Austin, Texas to Larkin Beatrice Hurst Edwards.

He attended the Austin Public Schools graduating from the Original L. C. Anderson High School. He then attended Huston-Tillotson College.

At an early age he united with the Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church.

David joined the United States Air Force and the United States Army. During his tour he was stationed in the Netherlands, Berlin, Hawaii, Washington, D.C., Alaska and Texas.

In 1950 he met and married Mary Lee Perkins. To this union seven children were born.

Upon returning to Austin after his U.S. Air Force Career, he was employed at the Texas State Highway Department. In 1993 he retired from the Texas State Highway Department after 22 years of service.

He enjoyed quartet singing and fishing.

David Edwards was preceded in death by his parents, Larkin and Beatrice Edwards, one brother Earnest Edwards, and two grandsons, David Edwards III and Jonathan Adonis Trouman.

On June 18, 2017 at 1:55 A.M. he entered eternal rest at home surrounded by his family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Mary Lee Edwards; three sons, David Edwards, Jr., Patrick Edwards and Michael Edwards; four daughters, Diane Smith, Debbie Bellinger, Kathleen Mays Banks and Michelle Edwards; four family members, Tony Richardson, William Robinson, Tiffany Edwards and Karla McCullough; 26 grandchildren, great grandchildren; one brother Larkin (Christine) Edwards; nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
