Elvin George VanSickle, Jr., 90, of Fostoria, died Monday June 12, 2017. He was born June 26, 1926 in Toledo, OH to parents Elvin and Annette (Meter) VanSickle, Sr. Van proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He returned home and married Gladys I. Henderson on January 17, 1953 in Ohio.

Mr. VanSickle was a member of the Lapeer: VFW, American Legion and enjoyed being a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Van was a machinist for General Motors, retiring from the Fisher Body plant on Coldwater Road, with 36 years under his belt. He was a proud supporter & member of UAW #326. Mr. VanSickle was a huge Detroit Tigers fan, loved to hunt and fish, and was a hobby farmer for many years.

Van is survived by his children Rebecca (Nicholas) Steele of Mayville, Jerry (Janine) VanSickle of Goodrich, Kathleen (Richard) Steele of Mayville, Judith Redmond of MI, Joyce (Mike) Howlett of Troy, Keith (Virginia) VanSickle of Clio, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way, siblings: Lois Stockner of Fremont, Bertha Vasicek of AZ, Shirley (Mel) Whitmer of FL, Leroy (Darlene) VanSickle of IN, Gail (Bonnie) VanSickle of Fremont, Jim (Lynette) VanSickle of TN and Ruth (Bill) VanAtter of MI. Van was preceded in death by his wife Gladys in 1995, brother Stanley as well as his parents.

Mr. VanSickle's visitation will be 4–8 Wednesday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. His funeral will be 11:00 AM Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Muir's, Pastor Drew Jolly officiating. The service will be followed immediately by military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard. Van's burial will be later that day, at Rich Township Cemetery.
