Wilma Laura Gertrude Butterfield, age 90 of Stanton, died Sunday June 4, 2017 at Stanton Health Center in Stanton. She was born July 30, 1926 at Wisner, Nebraska the daughter of Arthur and Wilhelmine "Minnie" (Koehler) Besmer. She grew up on a farm outside Wisner. She was baptized on August 23, 1926 at St. John's Lutheran Church rural Wisner and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wisner on March 17, 1940 on Palm Sunday by Pastor G.A. Zach. Wilma attended Cuming County District #11 near Wisner graduating the 8th grade on May 25, 1940. She attended Wisner High School, she later earned her G.E.D..

On October 1, 1948 Wilma married Elmer Butterfield at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Wisner to this union 2 children were born Ronald and Marlene. For many years she was a stay at home mom and farm wife. In 1966 the couple moved into town and Wilma worked in the lunch room at Stanton High School. In 1968 began working at Stanton Health Center in Housekeeping department and later advanced to care staff member. She began working as an Elementary Aid at Stanton Public Schools and later worked for the Stanton Health Center's Day Care, where she was affectionately "Grandma" for several years. Wilma babysat for her grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever she could.

Wilma was a member of Faith Lutheran Church; Faith Lutheran's Ladies Aid and Mary Martha Group; Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the neighborhood Kensington Club. She entered the Stanton Health Center on May 5, 2011. She loved her life there and made many lasting friendships with both the fellow residents and staff.

Survivors include Wilma's 2 children Ronald and Julene Butterfield of Stanton; Marlene Butterfield of Stanton; 3 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren Amy and Adam Donner and Alex and Owen of Bennington; Adam and Colleen Butterfield and Ben, Joey, Rebekah and Danny of Stanton; Aric and Mary Beth Butterfield and Ada of Plattsmouth, NE; 2 Sisters Norma Besmer and Theresa Wegner both of Stanton; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death is her parents, her husband of 30 years Elmer on November 22, 1978; 3 brothers-in-law; 6 sisters-in-law and 10 nephews and 3 nieces.

Visitation: 3 – 8 P.M. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church in Stanton under the direction of Shultz-Vogel-Johnson Mortuary – Stanton, NE.
