Minister James Alexander Jones, Sr. passed peacefully in his home early on the 25th of May after heroically fighting ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis for two years. James was born on April 9, 1969 in Savannah, Georgia.

At the age of nine, his family relocated to New Jersey settling in Plainfield where James was educated in the public school system. After high school graduation he attended Raritan Valley College where he played baseball. Eventually continued his education and was an outstanding student at Pnuema Life School of Ministry/Oral Roberts University where he studied theology.

James joined Guiding Star United Holy Church of America in 2006 and was the last member brought in the church by the late Bishop Elijah Holmes. James was a faithful member and diligent worker in the church. He answered the call to ministry in 2008 and had his initial sermon in 2009. In 2015, James was elevated to Associate Pastor under his Pastor, Wayne N. Bullock Sr. He humbly served as a Sunday School Teacher, and the leader of the Men's Fellowship Ministry where the lives of many men were greatly impacted.

James was employed at Catalent Health and Pharmaceutical as a stationary engineer. From his passion for restoring and reupholstering furniture, he started JAJ Upholstery, LLC in 2011.

On October 3, 2008, James married the love of his life, Roychele Woodton, whom he affectionately called - his "rib" and his "sunshine."

James loved the Lord, the Chicago Bears, traveling with his wife and spending time with his family and friends. He was a stellar baseball player and also a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the Detroit Pistons. He will be remembered for his sincere love for the Lord, infectious grin, old-school work ethic, and sense of humor.

James leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted & dedicated wife Roychele, son, James A. Jones Jr., daughters Alyssa Samuel, Nye, and Isabella Jones (Bells); his adoring father James and bonus mother (Margaret) Wilkerson, a faithful and loving mother Elder Josephine and bonus father (Ernest);
