Howard Leon Durham, Sr. "Tiny" was born on September 15, 1960 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, son of the late Johnnie and Celara Durham. He was educated in the Elizabeth Public School system where he graduated in the class of 1978.
In his youth, Howard was baptized at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the Junior Choir and served as a Junior Usher.
Howard served in the United States Army Reserve from 1979 to 1981.
He was employed at American Cyanamid in Linden from 1981to1989, and worked for Reichold Chemical Company of Newark from 1989 to 2004 until his health started to fail.
Howard fearlessly enjoyed riding his motorcycles and challenged anyone on roller skates. That was his thing, every Saturday morning or any day that he had free time. Howard would skate up and down the street with that HUGE speaker on the front step and of course at the skating rinks! He was the Best at it!
He was such an easygoing person, and one of the nicest guys you'd ever met. In fact, he was the easiest going person out of all the brothers. He was the "troublemaker of the family", instigated or kept husband and wives or couples at each other (in fun) sure to get laughs with this guy around. Howard had a nickname for everybody (chuckle).
On Friday May 26, 2017, Howard Leon Durham, Sr. departed this life at the Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey in the presence of his family as he lost his lengthy battle to cancer.
He was predeceased by his brother, Rev. Sheldon E. Durham; maternal grandparents: Ollie and Lillie Bullock; and paternal grandparents: Johnnie and Adlene Durham.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving daughter and caretaker, Jonaya Durham of Rahway, New Jersey; son, Howard Durham, Jr. of Elizabeth, New Jersey; stepson, Derrell Peterson of Rahway, New Jersey; granddaughter, (his Moot Moot) Jha'ni Grayer; grandson (his Shorty Doo Wop) Omari Peterson; two sisters: Mrs. Ernestine Price (Ernest) of Somerset, New Jersey and Jennifer Durham of Elizabeth, New Jersey; five brothers: James, John and Steve (Lisa) of Richmond, Virginia, Rodney (Cindy) of Elizabeth, New Jersey and Michael Durham (Turina) of Linden, New Jersey; best friends: Mr. and Mrs. Steven Edwards of Roselle New Jersey; a special friend: Ms. Donna Peterson of Elizabeth New Jersey; god daughter: Ms. Cheri Bogin; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
