FARMINGTON –

ROY – Ira J. Roy, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 25, 2017. He was the loving husband of the late Odile (Schaller) Roy for 35 years. Born October 25, 1930 in Plymouth, CT; the son of the late Omer and Josephine (Rebmann) Roy.

Ira was raised in Collinsville and his knowledge of the town and its history was well-known. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant in Korea during the conflict. He studied Mechanical Engineering at both Trinity College and MIT. He worked as an Engineer and Manager of Application Engineering at Torin Company in Torrington for many years. He finished his career with Revcor in Elgin IL before retiring. He was a long time member of the professional engineering organization known as ASHRAE, and he enjoyed tinkering and could fix anything.

He leaves two daughters, Brenda Semmelrock and husband Mark of Southington and Diane Kurtz and husband Michael of New Hartford; three beloved grandchildren, Matthew Semmelrock and wife Kathryn of White Plains NY, Paul Kurtz and fiancé Meg Lefeber of Kennebunk ME and Meredith Kurtz of Bend OR, along with many nieces and nephews. He also leaves John Gilligan and dear friends at Village Gate of Farmington, and Walt Sokol and friends who enjoyed breakfast everyday at McDonald's with him. In addition to his wife and son Phillip Roy, he was predeceased by his siblings, Omer Roy Jr., Earl Roy, Eunice Roy and Jean Quigley.

Friends may call on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford from 9 AM – 10:30 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Hope Parish, New Hartford at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, New Hartford with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The USO PO Box 96860 Washington DC 20077-7677.
