Wesley Lee Ramsey was born on February 22, 1935 in Gumberry, North Carolina, son of the late Bettie Ramsey. He received his formal education in North Hampton County, North Carolina. As a young man, Wesley accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and joined Ronoake Salem Baptist Church. He moved to New Jersey.

Wesley served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 and was honorably discharged.

On January 1958, Wesley married Gladys Brown. With this union, they were blessed with three beautiful daughters.

He worked as a Skycap Captain at Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark for 22 years, retiring in 1990.

Wesley was a people person and enjoyed talking to his friends.

On Sunday, May 7, 2017, Wesley Lee Ramsey answered the Master's call at the tender age of 82. Our hearts are deeply saddened by his departure but his covenant with God had to be fulfilled. We will all miss his open and friendly personality. We submit our thanks to God for having shared him with us. Wesley was predeceased by his sister, Mary Esther Neal.

He leaves to cherish precious memories, his devoted wife of fifty-nine years, Gladys Ramsey; three loving daughters: Stephanie Ramsey-Carr, Gwendolyn Ramsey and Trini Ramsey; three caring grandchildren: Baki Ramsey and wife Sonia, Triana Braxton, and Michael Lee Braxton; three wonderful great-grandchildren: Hadiya Abdur-Rauf, Sean Wesley Ramsey and Alicia Zeta Ramsey; first cousin: Thelma Boone, who is like a sister; cousin and special friend, Johnny Mac Kee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
