Vera Kline Curtis (Schenck) was born on October 19, 1922 in New York, New York at Sloane Maternity Hospital, the daughter of Abram and Julia Schenck. She was raised in Cranford, New Jersey and was educated in the Cranford Public School system. She was in one of the first graduating classes in Cranford High School. On May 28, 1945, she graduated from West Virginia State College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Vera moved back to Cranford where she lived for the next 72 years.

She married Leonard Townsend and was blessed with one daughter, Marcia Laverne Peters on November 22, 1950. Vera later married Willis Curtis.

Vera was employed as a Logistics Control Officer for the United States Federal Government of the Department of the Navy in Bayonne, New Jersey, retiring in 1978 after 28 years of service. In 1970, she received a commemorative pin for her 20-year tenure.

She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Along with her friends, Vera traveled widely across both the United States and the world. She was a hard working, adventurous, and a dear friend to many.
Vera was preceded in death by her father, Abram Schenck; mother, Julia "Juju" Schenck; husband, Willis Curtis in 1968; and daughter, Marcia Laverne Peters in 2016.

On Thursday, April 13, 2017, Vera Kline Curtis departed this earthly life in Cranford, New Jersey.
Vera leaves to cherish fond memories, her granddaughter, Thymetria "Trina" Townsend; great-grandson, Ceazarr Townsend and his wife, Kathleen Townsend; great-granddaughter, Tiana Townsend-Kenner; and a host of dear relatives and friends.
