Richard John Gubbels, age 77 of Randolph, died on Saturday April 1, 2017 at his home in Randolph surrounded by his family. He was born March 18, 1940 at Randolph, Nebraska the son of Walter and Irene (Gerber) Gubbels, Sr.. He was a 1958 graduate of St. Frances Catholic High School in Randolph, after graduating he began farming with his father near Randolph. Richard joined the United States Army on November 3, 1959 and was honorably discharged on August 2, 1961 and returned to farm with his father.

On August 1, 1964 Richard John Gubbels married Rita Ann Helena Reineke at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Randolph. The couple continued farming near Randolph until 2011 when they moved to Randolph.

Richard was a lifetime member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Randolph where he served on the parish council and building and grounds committee; member Knights of Columbus Council #5143 serving as Grand Knight 3 times and 9 years as Trustee; a member of John Deere 2 Cylinder Club; member of Tri County Cruisers; Charter Board member of Randolph Farm Supply; member American Legion Post #113 of Randolph serving on the honor guard; and a Teammates mentor;

Hobbies Richard enjoyed were working on his John Deere tractors and old cars, loved spending time with his grandkids as well as attending their sporting events and his daily drives through the country.

Surviving Richard is his wife of 52 years Rita Gubbels of Randolph; his 5 children Jane and Larry Janssen of Randolph; Jill and Jeff Dominisse of Norfolk; John and Kathy Gubbels of Randolph; Regina and Scott Backhaus of Randolph; Rebecca and Jeff Kerkman of Neligh; 16 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren; 4 Siblings Frances Lenhoff of Randolph; Walter and Detta Gubbels, Jr. of Randolph; Gilbert and Marian Gubbels of Cedar Falls, IA; Donna and Jim Lackas of Randolph;

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Bryan Hanna; brother Ronald Gubbels in infancy; Father and Mother-In-Law Joseph and Maxalinda Reineke; 4 brother-in-laws Charles Lenhoff, Jr.; Ronald Reineke; Don McIntosh; Sam Jones;
