Hubert Hodge was the fifth child born to Solomon Brasfield Hodge and Elizabeth Frances Hodge in St. Hedwig, Texas. Being raised in a Christian home, Hubert accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior and was baptized at East Chapel Methodist Church in St. Hedwig.

Huberts formal education began at St. Hedwig Public School. At 14 years old, Hubert moved to San Antonio. He continued his education at Douglas until he graduated from Brackenridge. Keeping his spiritual connection intact, Hubert joined with Jacobs Chapel United Methodist Church in 1929. He was an active member of the United Methodist Men, and past president of the Courtesy Committee, until his health began to decline.

A man's heart deviseth his way; but the Lord directeth his steps(Proverbs 16:9). Nineteen thirty-nine would prove to be a pivotal year for Hubert. On February 28, 1939 Hubert married the love of his life, Elvia McDaniel. Hubert and Elvia remained married for 76 years until Elvia transitioned to be with the Lord.

Hubert was a diligent and hardworking man. He worked at Southern Pacific Railroad until he retired. Unwilling to be idle in retirement, Hubert bought a Texaco Service Station in 1939. During this time, he was the first and only black Texaco dealer and automotive technician in the state of Texas. Hubert owned and operated the Texaco Service Station until December 31, 1976.

Better it is to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. (Proverbs 16:19)

Hubert also owned a boarding home which gave shelter to men who were in need. Knowing idle hands are the devils workshop, he built an automotive mechanic shop beside his house to continue working and serving San Antonio and the surrounding area for another 20 years.

Hubert loved imparting knowledge, helping others and most importantly, he loved God. He lived a full life and was blessed to be a centenarian!
