Ruth Anna Petersen, age 97 of Stanton, died Thursday December 29, 2016 at the Stanton Health Center in Stanton. She was born December 19, 1919 at Crete, Nebraska the daughter of William and Anna (Wyman) Rozdalovsky. She graduated from Crete High School and attended Doane College at Crete, NE. She worked for a time at the Crete Mills. Ruth enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II serving as a Seaman first class at a naval base in Baltimore, MD from April 4, 1945 until she was honorably discharged on July 18, 1946.

On March 16, 1947 Ruth married Louie Petersen at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pilger, Nebraska. The couple made their home farming north of Pilger farming with her husband. On January 31, 1965 Louie died and Ruth continued on the farm as she cared for her mother-in-law and babysat for area children for years. In 1973 Ruth moved to Crete, Nebraska where she cared for her parents, her brother and also babysitting for area children for a number of years.

In 2011 Ruth entered Tabitha Garden Square nursing home in Crete until she moved in February 2016 to the Stanton Health Center where she resided until her death. Ruth was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pilger and a former Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include her 2 sons Roy and Joanne Petersen of Stanton; Harry and Connie Petersen of Eagle, NE; 4 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; Husband Louie on January 1, 1965; 1 Son Larry in infancy in 1947; 2 Brothers Alvin and Lester.

Date: Tuesday January 3, 2017 – 10:30 A.M.
Interment: Pilger Cemetery – Pilger, NE
Military Rites: V.F.W. Post #3602 and American Legion Post #88 of Stanton, Nebraska
Visitation: 3-8 P.M. Monday at Shultz-Vogel-Johnson Mortuary in Stanton.
