Eugene Allen Valchar, known as "Gene", 73, of Needville, Texas passed away on December 5, 2016. He was born on May 19, 1943 in West Columbia, Texas to Leopold and Helen (Stavinoha) Valchar. Gene was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville and was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus. He honorably served our country in the U.S. Air Force and was a former member of the Richmond American Legion. Gene was president of Catholic Life Insurance Branch #27. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, feeding the squirrels and watching the birds. Gene was an avid sports fan – especially the Houston Astros and the Houston Texans. He doted on his 5 granddaughters and enjoyed watching their endeavors with school and sporting activities. This loving husband, father, Papa, brother and friend will be missed.

In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy House; mother-in-law, Mildred Von Hagel; and brothers-in-law, Louis Matcheski, Franklin Novicke and James Booth.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Cindy Valchar; daughter, Dawn Foster and husband, Doug; son, Scott Valchar and wife, Heather; grandchildren, Peyton, Emma and Libby Foster, and Ava and Addley Valchar; siblings, Leopold Valchar Jr., Helen Blume and husband, Jimmy, and Diana Valchar; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Matcheski, Charlotte Smith, Connie Posinski and husband, Bobby, Carlene Booth, and Cathy Pittman and husband, Ronnie; brother-in-law, Jimmy House; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2016 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Needville with burial following at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery in Needville.
