Godfrey C. Parker, 94, of New Britain, husband of Dolores (Bertrand) Parker, passed away Tuesday (September 27, 2016) in Newington. A New Britain native and lifelong resident, he graduated from New Britain High School, class of 1941. Godfrey joined the US Marine Corp and was assigned to the G-2 serving with the 3rd and 4th Divisions. His principal military training was in Aerial Photo Interpretation, map marking and information gathering. He participated in the invasion of Okinawa and other islands and after the A-bomb, he went to Nagasaki and participated in the demobilization of the Japanese war machine. Godfrey joined Carpenters Union Local 24 where he worked for 50 years, retiring in 1987. He later worked at Jerome Home in New Britain. Godfrey was a charter member of St. Maurice Church in New Britain and was a life member of New Britain American Legion Post #6.
Besides his wife Dolores, he leaves a son, Keith Parker and his wife Susan of Lebanon; three daughters, Dawn Gallo and her husband Dennis of New Hartford; Leslie Parker and her husband Paul Lavery of New Britain; and Claudia Parker and her husband Raymond Heath of also of Barkhamsted; a brother, Charles Parker of Agawam, MA; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Brian Parker; a sister, Helen Varacamontis and a brother Wilfred Parker.
Funeral services are Monday 9:15 AM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain, followed by a mass of Christian Burial 10 AM at St. Maurice Church, 100 Wightman Rd. New Britain, CT, 06052. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday 5 to 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home.
