George E. Kumm, 89, of Berlin, passed away Tuesday (September 6, 2016) at Apple Rehab of Cromwell. A New Britain native and former resident, son of the late Clarence and Agnes (Hart) Kumm, he lived in Berlin since 1960. A graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1944, he served with the US Army and was stationed in Europe during the Nuremberg Trials. George was a store manager for Sage Allen Stores for 45 years, retiring in 1989. George was a gentle man and was loved by everyone who knew him.
Surviving is a brother, Earl Kumm of Meriden; several nieces and nephews including Wesley Kumm, Jr., Karen Hills, Linda Valeri, Patricia Zita, Timothy Kumm, Jeffrey Kumm, Deborah Lestik, Marie Wagner, Donna Schienda and David Loiselle. He also leaves three dear friends, Joan Devendittis, Candace Devendittis and Patricia Robinson. He was predeceased by three brothers and two sister, Wesley Kumm, Sr., Russell Kumm, Roy Kumm, Shirley Glynn and an infant sister, Irene Kumm.
Funeral services are Saturday 10 AM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Saturday morning from 9 AM until the time of the service at Carlson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
