Leonard P. Nelson, 60, of Middletown, husband of Diane (Newton) Nelson, passed away unexpectedly on August 27, 2016 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, son of Lois (Mueller) Nelson and the late Richard Nelson, he has lived in Middletown for the past 14 years. Leonard was Pastor of Heritage Baptist Church of New Haven and the Fleet Manager of NAPA in Middletown. He is a graduate of Hyles Anderson College where he received his Bachelors of Science Degree. Leonard was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan.

Besides his wife Diane and his mother Lois, he is survived by four daughters, Julie Welch and her husband Shane of Port St. Lucie, FL; Jamie Arnold and her husband Jason of Merrillville, Indiana; Joy Hahn and her husband Matt of Calera, Alabama; and Jordyn Nelson of Middletown; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Connor and Shelby Welch; Lily and Edie Arnold; and Tyler and Ryan Hahn; three brothers, Bill Nelson and his wife Jarmella of Minnesota; Rick Nelson and his wife Jeanine of Indiana; and Bob Nelson and his wife Dawn of Minnesota; four sisters, Mary Waddell and her husband Ben of Minnesota; Janet Vogel and her husband Tom of Indiana; Margie White of Nebraska; and Judy Nelson of California; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Friday 11 AM at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 296 New Britain Avenue, Newington. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Thursday from 5 to 8 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain.
