Kearny – Lois Nickerson Grobholz Haasis, age 91, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, July 22, 2016 at Oakleaf Village in Lexington, SC, where she had been a resident for the past year. She was born February 2, 1925 to Joseph and Isabelle Nickerson in Kearny, NJ. Lois graduated from Kearny High School in 1941 and attended The Katherine Gibbs School in New York City. Lois earned her BA degree from Rutgers University. She taught school in NJ for many years. She married Raymond Kenneth Grobholz in 1944 and had five children. In 1982, Lois married Walter F. Haasis, gained a step-son and resided in Piscataway, NJ for the next 33 years.
Lois is survived by her children, Diana (Birch) Cannon of Lexington, SC, Jill (Lee) Alexander of Canandaigua, NY, Virginia Gera of Glenwood Springs, CO, James (Stephanie) Grobholz of Washington, NJ and step-son Douglas (Lisa) Haasis of Mountain Top, Pa, 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Lois also leaves behind her step-brother, Earl (Moira) Crowell of Kearny, NJ, and step-sister Irma (Jack) Gill of Longs, SC. Lois was predeceased by her husbands, Kenneth Grobholz and Wally Haasis, daughter, Sue Jaquith, grandson, Justin Cannon, great grandson, Andrew Edmund Jaquith, and good friend, Sid Baen.
A graveside service will be held in Arlington Cemetery, 748 Schuyler Ave., Kearny, NJ on Thursday, September 1 at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
