John "Jack" Eydenta, 87, of Kensington passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving daughters on Wednesday, August 24th. He was born in New Britain on September 21, 1928 to Walter and Estelle (Thomas) Eydenta. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Margaret Saxton Eydenta and his two sisters, Shelly Eydenta McArthur and Irene Eydenta Hope. He leaves three daughters, Debra Callahan and her husband Richard of Storrs; Jacqueline Correia of Rocky Hill; and Cheryl Derr of Plainville. He leaves one grandson, John Ryan Kaley and one great granddaughter, Brooke Elizabeth Kaley both of Rocky Hill. He also leaves a brother-in-law, Mac McArthur and his wife Denise of Haddam; a sister-in-law, Catherine Daley of Glastonbury; and his faithful feline companion, "Charlie". Jack was a WW2 veteran of the Army Air Corps, which was the predecessor to the US Air Force. Jack retired in 1988 from Pratt & Whitney as a Foreman in Plant Engineering. Jack was a life member of the Amber Club in New Britain, the IIPC of Berlin; Post 511 VFW in New Britain; and Post 68 American Legion in Berlin. He was also a member of the Spartan Veterans Club in Kensington. Jack loved to play cards all his life. He loved fishing and boating in Long Island Sound and spent many summers at Witches Woods Lake with his family and friends. He was a avid sports fan and followed both UCONN basketball teams as well as the Boston Red Sox.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday 11 AM (August 29, 2016) at St. Andrew Church 396 Church Street, New Britain, CT 06051. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Sunday 4 to 6 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain. Memorial donations may be made to the CT Humane Society 701 Russell Rd. Newington, CT 06111.
