Pauline E. (Koch) Heinonen, 92, of Bedford, NH died on April 28, 2016, at Mt. Carmel Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Manchester, NH after a period of declining health. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Maynard, Massachusetts, the daughter of Albert and Laura (O'Neal) Koch, Mrs. Heinonen was educated in Maynard schools and also attended Mount Saint Mary College in Hooksett, NH.

Pauline married her high school sweetheart and soul mate, Eero Heinonen in 1942 and they enjoyed 67 wonderful years together until his passing in 2008. They spent the early years of their marriage in Massachusetts, during which time she worked for the Boston & Maine Railroad, while her husband served in the Army. They moved to New Hampshire in 1951 to raise their family, settling in Bedford. Upon moving to New Hampshire she was a full-time wife and mother. Once her children were grown, she was employed at Judi's Dress Shop in Manchester and later for Lemay Brother's Jewelers.

Mrs. Heinonen loved working long hours in her gardens and took great pride in her home; she was unashamed to admit that she loved housework. Her hobbies included playing bridge with various groups in the Bedford/Manchester area, knitting, sewing and reading. As a long-time member of the First Congregational Church, she was also involved with various church committees and served as a lay leader of the Disciples Alive study group.

For many years Mrs. Heinonen and her husband spent their winter months in Sarasota, FL and then St. Simon's Island, GA during which time they enjoyed making new friends and traveling throughout the southern states exploring historic sites. Some of their best adventures were shared with Mrs. Heinonen's brother Albert and his wife Doris Koch.

Mrs. Heinonen was predeceased by sisters, June Koch, Loraine Lemay, Della Hartwell, and Bernice Collura, and brothers, Robert and Albert Koch.

She is survived by a devoted daughter, Deborah Poehlman and her husband Russell of Manchester, a granddaughter, Gretchen Knight and husband Gregory, of Dover and by her great-granddaughter, Annabelle Knight who always put a big smile on her face, a son, Jonathan Heinonen, former daughter-in-law Sylvia Heinonen, who maintained a close and loving relationship with her "second mother," sister-in-law Doris Koch of Charlton, MA and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Sunday, May 1 from 4 -7pm at Goodwin Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 607 Chestnut Street, Manchester, NH. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, May 2 at First Congregational Church, 508 Union Street, Manchester. Burial will follow at the NH State Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen.

Donations in Pauline's memory may be made to the First Congregational Church, 508 Union Street, Manchester, NH 03104
