Bernard Frank Gaas, 85, of Victoria, Texas and longtime resident of Point Comfort, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016.
He was born June 1, 1930 in Cameron, Texas to the late Frank and Rosalie (Marek) Gaas. His family moved to El Maton, Texas where he graduated from Tidehaven High School and attended Wharton Junior College. He served in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana with the Third Infantry Division/64 TK Battalion B Company. He served in the Korean Conflict as Sergeant First Class - Communications Chief. He married Angeline Stasta on May 7, 1957 and they were members of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Point Comfort. He took great pride in a 38 year career as an electrician at Alcoa Aluminum Company of America in Point Comfort. He was a generous, kind and loving man always ready to lend a hand to family, friends and strangers. He often volunteered his time to serve his church and assist the elderly in his community. He devoted much of his life in care of his wife due to her lengthy illness.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann, her husband Darren and grandsons Peter and Andrew Dunda of Plano; sister and brother-in-law Henrietta and Richard Harrison of Bryan, sister, Mary Helen Gaas of Horseshoe Bay and brother and sister-in-law Dan and Karen Gaas of Austin and beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Angeline Stasta Gaas, brother, Frank Joseph Gaas, sister, Bernice Gaas Kitkoski and sister, Loretta Gaas Polasek.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 7th at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat, Texas. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6th at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m
