He passed from this life into the gates of Heaven on Thursday afternoon, November 26, 2015, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. He was surrounded by the family he loved so much.

James was born on April 21, 1927, in the Hiram community south of Wills Point, the son of Eldridge Franklin Hardy, Jr. and Junia Mae Barnett Hardy. He was raised in Hiram and in 1944, he graduated from Wills Point High School. On December 28, 1946, he married Bonnie Faye Howell in Wills Point. He pastored several Baptist churches, the last one being Locust Grove Baptist Church at Hiram. James followed in his father's footsteps as his father also had pastored this church. Other places of employment were Bethlehem Steel in Corsicana, Longview Brass & Aluminum in Longview and owned and operated Jack & Jill Day Care Center in Longview, retiring in 1985. For several years, James worked at Allan Fuller Funeral Home as a funeral assistant. He lived at Hiram prior to moving to Longview four years ago. He enjoyed going camping, fishing, reading and working in his shop doing woodwork. James loved to sing in the choir, in his workshop and just walking around the yard. One of his favorite songs was "I'll Fly Away". He especially looked forward to when his daughters and grandchildren came to visit. He cherished his family very much and enjoyed teasing the grandchildren. James was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by his parents, Eldridge Franklin and Junia Mae Hardy; daughter, Sharon Sue Hardy and granddaughter, Heather Lynn Kent.
