Funeral services for Gene Carlton Hooks, 86, of Longview, formerly of Edgewood, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Rev. Peoples officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewood.

He passed away Sunday night, November 8, 2015, at his residence in Longview surrounded by his family.

Gene was born May 28, 1929, in Edgewood, the son of William Ernest Hooks and Connie Inez Dunbar Hooks. He was raised in Edgewood and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1952. Gene was a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed by General Motors in Arlington, retiring in 1986. On December 6, 1993, he married Mildred Pauline Waters in Longview. Gene moved to Longview twenty-two years ago. He enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting and fishing. Gene was a member of Lake Fork Baptist Church in Yantis.

Preceded in death by his parents, William Ernest and Connie Inez Hooks; mother of his children, Evelyn Hooks; son, Jack Hooks, step-daughter, Charlotte Seaman; step-granddaughter, Tammy Turner; four brothers and three sisters.

Gene is survived by his wife, Pauline Hooks, of Longview; two daughters, Della Burks & husband, Kent, of Venus and Janice Rector & husband, Terry, of Burleson; two step-daughters, Barbara Howell, of Kilgore and Donna Rae Schartz & husband, Melvin, of Overton; step-son, Duane Cleveland & wife, Stephanie, of Holstein, Nebraska; two brothers, J.D. Hooks & wife, Michelle, of Princeton and Lonnie Hooks & wife, Sheila, of Pleasant Hill, Louisiana; nineteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 11:00 – 12:00 noon prior to funeral service.
