Cornelia "Connie" Phillips- Kimbrough of Atlantic City received her angel wings on Friday October 23, 2015 in Shore Medical Center. Surrounded by her family she peacefully took her final sleep.
Mrs. Kimbrough was born July 24, 1927, in Cataula, Ga to the late Oscar Phillips III and Rosa Lee Taylor.

"Connie" was raised in Columbus, Georgia. She attended the Georgia Public Schools and Spencer High School. As a young adult Cornelia attended Greater Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she received her spiritual relationship with the Lord.

In 1945 she married the love of her life Willie James Kimbrough, Sr. of this union were 7 children.
Mrs. Kimbrough was a military wife. She lived in Puerto Rico for 2 years and spent time in Norfolk, VA before finally settling in Atlantic City with her family in 1954. She made her living working at many of the local hotels and motels during her early years in Atlantic City. She was employed by the Tropicana Motel, Dichter's Hotel, Haddon Hall, Columbus Hotel, Kent's Restaurant and lastly before her retirement she was the clerk for G & S (Gassman's) Liquor Store on Arctic Avenue.

She was very involved in the education of her children, and made sure that she was informed by actively participating in PTA and other organizations when asked. She was instrumental in forming the first Black Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Madison Avenue School and became its president. She was very active in her community always performing her civic duties to ensure a decent life for her family. She was also very active in the fundraising efforts for the March of Dimes and carried a duel membership with the 1st Ward and Bungalow Park Civic Associations after having to leave her uptown home.

Mom Kimbrough loved her family and instilled great moral values no matter what life threw at her family. She spent her life giving of herself to others. Caring for the elderly and infants.

Mrs. Kimbrough is preceded in death by: siblings, Felton Phillips and Annie R. McDuffie, sons, Dwayne, Willie James Jr, & Reginald; daughter-in-law, Sherry Lynn Kimbrough; son-in-law, Curtis Whitted.

She leaves to cherish her memory and to carry on the legacy of her life: sister, Susie P. Bowsky of Brooklyn NY; children, Bertha Patricia A. Whitted of Fayetteville, NC, Andra Curtise Williams (Walter), Debra Renai, and Karl Anthony (Bertha) of Atlantic City; grandchildren: Kelly, Curtis and Ebony Whitted, Kawan & Karl Freeman, Zachary & April Kimbrough, Aisha Oliver, Latifa White and Walter N. Williams. 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; very special friends, Hazel and Raymond Coursey; and a host of other family and friends.
