Shirley June Stott of Atlantic City, New Jersey went home to be with her Lord Jesus on Thursday, October 15, 2015, with her daughters by her side.

Shirley was born in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey on June 24, 1929, to Mr. & Mrs. Dewey and Dorothy Waters. She attended the Egg Harbor City public schools and graduated at the early age of 16. She continued to assist her father working in the family business of Waters' Dry Cleaning service in Egg Harbor City, which was one of the few Black, owned and operated businesses in the city at that time. She later attended New York University's Pre-Med program, until meeting her husband with whom she bore four children, and she dedicated her love and life.

Shirley loved her children unconditionally. She later became a single mother, and moved her family to Atlantic City in 1966. She continued to do her best, in spite of all the challenges that would come her way. This caused her children to see an inner strength and love that they admired and provided them with a confidence and inner strength of their own.

Shirley loved to sing, and play the piano. She performed for the soldiers as a young woman in the USO as a vocalist in her mother's band, "The Sparkling Waters Review." Shirley was also an avid reader and would go through boxes of romance novels and mystery books. This love for reading would later lead to her reading the entire Bible over the course of her years.

Shirley attended the Love Center Church in Atlantic City, New Jersey, during her later years. Prior, she attended Jethro Memorial Presbyterian Church in Atlantic City, where she had all four of her children baptized. She was an active member from 1969 to 1973, where she faithfully served by assiting in the formation of the church's choir and starting a Sunday school for the Junior Sunday school children, and she also sang in the formal international programs sponsored by Atlantic County Churches.

When caregivers began to enter her life, most seemed to be changed, inspired or moved by her kindness and love. She had those who took the time to know her, leave with a feeling of love and acceptance.

Shirley was pre-deceased by her parents, Dewey and Dorothy Waters; her sister, Carol Stickney and her husband, Benjamin; and her two sons, Malcolm E. Stott, Jr. and Mallory J. Stott.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kathy A. Stott and Marta D. Stott, three grandchildren, Mia J. Mitchell, Malika Stott, and Oginga J. Stott; one great-grandson, Jahroz Brown; two nieces, Karen Johnson (Lafayette) and Leslie Jemison (Robert); a great nephew, Alim Stickney; a great niece, Lauren Stickney; and host of friends, family and caregivers.
