Silas Napoleon Epps, didn't want to keep his one true love of 60 years, Cassie Marie Epps, waiting in Heaven and joined her Saturday, February 28, at 3:00 a.m. (He always was an early riser.)
He has six devoted children, Tony (Sharon), Wanda Moody, Randy (Stephanie), Robby (Arlene), Ronny (Kay), and Lonny (Mary). He has 15 grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and growing.
He served three years in the Army during combat in World War II as a sniper. He then switched branches and served 22 years in the Air Force as a cook, satisfying thousands of airmen with his creative passion for food. He retired in 1972 as a multi-decorated senior NCO- Master Sergeant. After getting his GED, he then furthered his education by receiving two Associate Degrees.
He was a volunteer Boxing Coach for 30 years at the Phyllis Wheatley Center in Greenville. While there, he mentored many young men, several of whom won championships. He was inducted into the Carolinas Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014.
Visitation will be held
Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. followed by the Funeral Service at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to White Rock Boxing, 2150 Dutch Fork Rd., Chapin, SC 29036.
