Irene E Smith, 91, of Prudenville passed away on Wednesday January 21, 2015 at West Branch Regional Medical Center.
Irene was born on October 12, 1923 in Roscommon, Michigan to Hector and Joanna (Knapp) Doyle. Irene was married to John J. Breyer in 1942, and he preceded her in death in 1964. In 1969 she married Edward Smith whom preceded Irene in death in 1995. She has been the owner/operator of the Breyer's Resort on Houghton Lake since 1946. Irene was a member of Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church, Houghton Lake Eagles, and Houghton Lake Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving Mrs. Smith are her six daughters, Barb Jolliff of Long Beach, California, Sherry (Jim) Botsford of Lansing, Carolyn Breyer of Bonita Springs, Florida, Janet Peterson of Prudenville, Jean Breyer of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Anne Breyer of Prudenville; three sons, Paul (Mercedes) Breyer of Traverse City, Roger Breyer of Prudenville, and Patrick (Michelle) Breyer of Bonita Springs, Florida; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mary Rewold, and Alice Doyle; several nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Breyer; husband, Edward Smith; three brothers and two sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial for Irene E Smith will be conducted at 1:00 pm Monday January 26, 2015 from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Prudenville, with Fr. Joe Muszkiewicz officiating. Interment will be in Roscommon Township Cemetery with a graveside service in the spring. Visitation will be held on Sunday January 25, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel. Memorial Contribution in memory of Irene are asked to be directed to the family or Donor's Choice. Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel is serving the family.
