Beloved Aunt, 94

Henrietta "Edwina" Connell, 94, of Nutley, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the home of her loving niece in Montclair. There will be a funeral service celebrated at the Biondi Funeral Home of Nutley, 540 Franklin Avenue on Wednesday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Pam Bakal officiating. The interment will be at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 22 from 2:00– 4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Edwina was born at St. John's Hospital in Brooklyn, NY not far from where her father made furniture in a store. Three years later the family relocated to Nutley where Edwina was educated through High School. Edwina liked to reminisce when, as a child, she would watch from her porch the installation of sewer lines and the paving of Nutley's streets.

She received her Bachelor's Degree in History from New York University and her Master's Degree in Social Work at Clark-Atlanta University. She worked for several agencies in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey before settling at Family and Youth Services in Montclair, retiring in 1983. Edwina was a master bridge player earning enough points to become a director. Edwina was a master bridge player earning enough points to become a director. She was a life master of both the American Bridge Association and the American Contract Bridge League. She was the Emeritus President and Director of the American Bridge Association of Newark. Edwina was also a long-time member of the League of Women Voters.

Edwina also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing all of her own clothing. She loved reading and possessed a county library card. She also joined book clubs to talk about the different books and authors, especially those on the "best seller lists". She also loved to travel and has been to many places including London, Mexico and Italy. Edwina also did oil paintings of scenery and still objects in her spare time. She took pride in her gardening, growing vegetables, herbs and exotic plants and flowers such as the night blooming cirius. Edwina drove a standard shift car until she was ninety-two years old.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Marion Lee Connell, her four loving nieces M. Lynn Connell, Beverly J. King, Florence E. Rogers and Gloria E. Reaves-Allen, family and a host of friends.

Edwina is predeceased by her parents Edward and Evelyn Connell and her brother Victor Connell.
