I was shocked to hear of Elvin's death and that of Jill. We were colleagues in ministry for only a short time . . . but he was always in my memory. If you met Elvin once . . . you knew him for a lifetime. My condolences and blessings to his family.

Please extend my condolences to the family. I was a classmate of Elven's at Cheshire High and we had many good times together. I am sorry to hear of his passing, through another good friend of his, Michael Fadus.

We will miss him so much. He made a great impact on the people who got to know him. A beautiful legacy.

When I was a teen, Elven was someone I admired, someone to emulate at least in part as I grew up. He was funny, he was irreverent, and he didn't let his ego get in the way when he hung out with teens. And he was kind to me at a time when I was pretty awkward.

I am very sorry to hear of Elven's death. We were in seminary at Andover Newton at the same time, although we lost touch after leaving school. His family and friends will be in my prayers. I am also thinking of his congregation, who must be in shock after losing a beloved pastor of 25 years. My prayer is that all will be comforted by God's presence. Whether we live or die we belong to the one who is Lord both of the living and the dead.

Though I wasn't a member of United Churches, I enjoyed the time spent with my grandmother attending Sunday services after my grandfather passed. I enjoyed your father's sermons and always looked forward to what he would say. I attended a few funerals he served over. He captured the spirit of the dearly departed and offered comforting words to family and friends. I wish I had some comforting words for you now during this difficult time.

I knew Jill through Odyssey of the Mind and was amazed at Elvin's composure during her service. Now to hear about this is so hard to even fathom. Elven was the much-loved and respected pastor of our little non-denominational community church for about five years while also serving at Pilgrim Congregational across town. We were all saddened by the passing of Elven's beloved Jill two years ago and were really shocked and further saddened to learn of his untimely death. May our sorrow be tempered by the assurance that the two of them are reunited in God's Kingdom which they both served faithfully while here on earth. Deanna, It has been so many years since I last saw Elven yet I was filled with sadness to learn of his passing. I have happy memories of the times we spent traipsing around the Bershires and Boston with trips to the Opera, Ballet and Tanglewood. He had a profound impact on my life and I am happy to see that he achieved the type of ministry he always aspired to.
