That picture of Mr. Cockerham is exactly the way I remember him. He had such a kind smile and spirit. A quick story: Back in '67, as our 8th grade class was looking forward to high school, we celebrated by wearing old shirts and signing them at the end of the year. We signed our names all over his "white dress shirt", and he was such a good sport about it. We felt so bad later that we ruined his shirt, we collected money and got him a new dress shirt from Rose Dry Goods. He was a great person, teacher and wonderful example to all students. We need more like him today.
God bless you in your loss.

To Mrs Cockerham and Family, I could never tell you enough how fortunate enough to have had Mr Cockerham as a teacher and overall mentor in my life!

He was one of the greatest people I've ever known. He was so funny and there's not a day that goes by that I'm not quoting something he had said.

He will truly be missed. And I'm so sad for your loss. I'm praying for your family and just know what a wonderful man Mr Cockerham was!

Thank you for sharing him with all of us!

Lou and I send our most sincere condolences to you, Virginia and all of the family. David and I have been friends for such a long time that I can't remember when I DIDN'T know him. I could write a novel about the good times we had as young boys and as "old" boys. He will be sorely missed by me and everyone who knew him. Virginia , Lou and I are here for you any time you need a shoulder to lean on. God bless and comfort you in this most difficult time.

Simply put, Mr. Cockerham was a good man. I, like so many people, have many fond memories of time spent in his classroom. And, I'm appreciative of that time. I have to smile when I think about how many people have heard one of his sayings without ever being in his classroom. We've all shared Mr. Cockerham's quotes at some point. I still do and always will.

Prayers for the Cockerham family during this time of sorrow. Take comfort in knowing he's in a place where "every day's a holiday, and every meal's a banquet." A place where you will see him again some day.

My prayers are with the family. I have many wonderful memories as his student and he gave us so many laughs. There are not enough teachers like him in the world. I always think fondly of him when I hear certain funny phrases. I wish I was able to come and pay my respects. Mr. Cockerham influenced many of us and we are better people for having been able to be his students.

Mr. Cockerham..........what an amazing man! My memories of middle school have always included him and put a smile on my face. He taught me so much more than math. I was blessed to know him and have him as a part of my life.

Mr. Cockerham was surely one in a million. He taught me way more than math and driver's ed. He was funny and kind. I quote him to my children every day! Thank you for sharing your precious husband and dad with all of us. You are all in our prayers.

One of my favorite teachers growing up. Will never forget his words of wisdom, "You kids go to church on Sunday and act like Jews and you come to math class on Monday and act like Gentiles!" I must confess, he sent me out to the "idiot bench" a few times! I enjoyed having a teacher who was a born again Christian.

I am so very sorry to hear about Mr. Cockerham's passing but I am so glad to read that he loved the Lord. Mr. Cockerham was my pre-algebra teacher TWICE and I still repeat some of the funny things he used to say. Just this past Saturday I was making a pot of pinto beans and singing a silly song he used to sing (First Marine ate the bean, parlez vous...) and my husband and I talked about his class and drivers ed and how fun he was to be around.

We were so sorry to hear about David's passing. We have been praying for the whole family for some time and will continue to pray. It is so hard when we lose our loved ones. We miss them so much but we know he is in Heaven with our Lord and Saviour and that we will see him again. May God bless you and comfort you. Remember Psalm 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Love and Prayers, Brenda & James Thomas
